INVITES NOMINATIONS FOR

THE OUTSTANDING SCIENCE TEACHERS
AWARDS PROGRAM
......The SOUTHEASTERN SECTION of THE SCIENCE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK STATE has established a program to recognize outstanding Elementary and Secondary Science Teachers in our section. In addition we are also recognizing a new teacher who exemplifies the same outstanding qualities as indicated below for a veteran teacher, but who has only taught one or two years.
......Your help would be appreciated in routing nomination forms to people in your school who would consider selecting one (or more) of your fellow educators for this award.
O.S.T.A. Criteria for Nomination

The Nominee:

  1. Must presently teach in a public or private school, K-12, in Sullivan, Orange, Rockland, Dutchess, Putnam, or Ulster County. The exception is the Saugerties Central School District which is not in the SE Section of STANYS.
  2. Has a minimum of five years teaching experience.
  3. Has demonstrated exemplary science teaching as evidenced by the following;
    ....-Fosters outstanding student achievement in science.
    ....-Encourages students to continue scientific endeavors
    ....-Motivates students to participate in science-oriented activities at the local, state, and national levels.
  4. Exemplifies the professional teacher in attitude, approach, diligence, dedication, and knowledge.
  5. Contributes to the school program beyond the classroom and is involved in the community and professional organizations.
The candidate should be outstanding in some but not necessarily all of these criteria.
Nominations are encouraged by fellow teachers, supervisors, and school administrators. Self-nominations are also accepted. All nominations are kept in confidence. Selection is made by the STANYS-SE Section Outstanding Science Teacher (OSTA) Committee. Select nominees will be invited to submit additional information.
